Getting Started on Your Website

Here is a list of items that are helpful to prepare prior to having your website built by Aion Light Web Design. The more items from this list that you have prepared, the more quickly your site can be created and published to the internet.

Domain Name(s)

  1. Choose a domain name (such as aionlight.com, whisperinglotus.com, yourname.net, etc.).
  2. When choosing a domain name, make it as succinct and meaningful as possible. For businesses and organizations, this is usually some form of the business or organization name.
  3. Multiple domain names can be used for the same website. When purchasing the Basic Site Package or Single Page Website, each domain name beyond the first comes at an additional charge.
  4. If you have already purchased a domain name from another service, provide the account information for that domain name to Aion Light so we can properly link your new website to your domain name. If you choose not to provide Aion Light with this account information or would like to enter the information yourself, we will provide you with the DNS server names associated with your website.
    You may also elect to transfer your domain name to Aion Light: For the same price as purchasing a new domain name from Aion Light, you can transfer your existing domain name to Aion Light and receive an extra year's registration from the date of the transfer.

Website Content

  1. Gather and create documents needed for the website. This includes a mission statement (purpose of website), information about the entity behind the website (about the business, organization, etc.), information on products and services, contact information, and so on. Have every piece of information that you want to appear on the website in an electronic document (Microsoft Word, PDF, or plain text). The website's value can only be as good as the information you give the web designer to build it.
  2. Gather logos, photographs, and other images you want to appear on the website (electronic versions are best). Find the highest resolution example you can of each of these images. If you would like Aion Light to design a logo for you, please contact us for an estimate.
  3. Provide any branding information or personal preference for colors, fonts, and basic layout. If there are websites similar to what you would like to capture, make a note of the website address.
  4. Sketch or write out a basic site flow; that is, what information is on each page and where can a visitor go from each page? Think of an abbreviated description of each page that can be used in the site navigation (like a brief table of contents: Home, Products, etc.).
    A basic website often has:

    1. A home page with a mission statement or clear way of letting a visitor know what your site is about.
    2. A contact page where visitors can reach you via phone, email, and/or mail.
    3. A page describing the business or organization ("about" page).
    4. The remaining pages dedicated to products, services, and the main information a visitor can get from the site.
    5. A site navigation available on every page (often to the top or side of a page).
  5. A description of any online tools or applications to be used on the website. This could be anything from a members-only area requiring a login to a searchable database.
  6. Prepare a short one-sentence description of each page. This will be used by search engines to help properly list your site.

Down Payment

  1. Aion Light Web Design requires a non-refundable 50% down-payment on the lowest quote price on all services prior to beginning any project ($297.50 for the Basic Site Package). Contact Aion Light for payment details.
